embracing the digital dumpster fire
i set my wifi on fire (metaphorically) and honestly it's been kind of beautiful
the burnt toast method
so i adopted what i call the burnt toast method (not any good reason for that name, just felt right at the time). wake up in the morning and instead of the normal oh-no-spiral, i just stare at the glowing rectangle. the screen. the portal. whatever. and then i realize... everything's on fire. not metaphorically, literally. my toaster's popped. there's bread everywhere. this is fine. essentially, i came to peace with chaos through toast metaphors and it was... effective? no judgment, just burnt carbs.
embrace the chaos
so once i'd acknowledged the fire was real (by which point the toast had cooled and become part of the landscape), i leaned into it. tweets are spicy now. i love realizing someone i follow has beef with a fruit emoji. memes are sentient. they've been watching us. also, my wifi seems to know more about me than my therapist does. which is bad? or good? does it matter? probably not let’s move on.
learn to love the fire
then i did something radical—i set a marshmallow on my modem. metaphorically, i mean i just stared at it. but the metaphor feels more poetic. toast the marshmallow, bung it in the fire (the fire being my streaming service). learned nothing from that, but the feeling of warmth is nice. i've been trying to find comfort in the fire instead of avoiding it. just sitting with the heat. kinda meditative? maybe. or maybe i'm just toasty.
live in the fire
next step was crucial—i burned a few drafts of this exact post. deleted them. kept writing. the fire is feedback! or punishment, you decide. either way, ultimately i gave up and just kept typing. that's the secret, right? persistence through destruction. digital arson as self-care.
log off sometimes, panic a little, then remember the fire is beautiful
sometimes i do log off. genuinely. for like... an hour. tops. then i panic because the fire's gone out and everything feels dull. but then i remember the fire was always there, just waiting. ready to consume again. kind of gorgeous when you think about it. the impermanence of digital flame makes it precious. or maybe i'm just sleep-deprived. possibly both. anyways, that's how i stopped worrying and started loving the digital dumpster fire. you're welcome.
