the gravel incident

one death, filed under workplace accident.

i was walking across the courtyard when a gravel block entered the exact space where my foot was going. i had seen it before, but only as part of the ground, which is how the ground gets you. my health went down in pieces. i blamed the block, then the courtyard, then the general lack of railings.

colette was standing by the chest. she said, "you fell off a ledge."

i checked the ledge. it was one block high. there were four hundred pieces of gravel in the chest, counted because i needed the number to be worse. i took one and placed it beside the hole. this made the hole larger and gave me another place to fall.

the death message called it fall damage. that is too generous. a fall has distance in it. this had a suggestion.

i have moved the chest indoors and put the gravel in the furnace.
