the recommendation

a customer asked me what was good, and i said the soup. this is a rule at panera, that if somebody asks for good you give them the thing you would eat while standing up. i said broccoli cheddar, because it has cheese and the bowl is hot.

they came back with the bowl and asked if it was supposed to be orange. i told them yes. they said it tasted like a wet envelope. i looked at it and saw one green floret floating near the spoon, trying to leave.

i offered to replace it. they said the first one was already a replacement. the register showed two soups, so i called a manager, and the manager said the customer had ordered the same thing twice. that made the soup a witness.

the customer asked what was good again. i said the baguette. they came back with sixty-four crumbs in the bag, and i corrected them until they stopped counting.
