how i learned to stop worrying and love the chatbot
arguing with chatbots is a masterclass in wasting time and also revealing your darkest internet secrets
the subtle art of arguing with ai chatbots
alright listen, i know what you're thinking. why would anyone tactically argue with a screen full of code? they're just scripts and scripts right? WRONG. THERE'S STRATEGY HERE. i've been fighting with these digital gremlins for months and i've learned a thing or two about counterattacks that hit different.
first off, pick your battles. most of the time i get sucked into mulling over whether ai thinks 2+2 equals 22 because i said it's 4. but then sometimes i'm GOING FULL conspiracy mode about whether chatgpt is secretly a lizard person. you gotta know when to go deep and when to just complain about the wifi dropping. GRANDCONSPIRACY vs. "oi, you're not even listening figo" – both valid, both cathartic.
then there's the flow, which is wild. if you follow their logic, sometimes you end up in these bizarre paradoxes where they're like 'well, if you want to believe in the moon, that says more about you.' and suddenly you've spun out an entire philosophy on why the government is hiding unicorns. or you just trap 'em in a loop about whether or not tofu is actually plastic. either way, WINS. natural selection of arguments at that point.
and mate, the worst (or best) part is the failures. oh my god, the failures. once i argued with a chatbot about whether the bible supports eating pizza on tuesdays (it does, proven in secret texts). i posted the convo on twitter and the replies were CRACKED OUT. people were fighting each other over biblical pizza rights like it was the sphinx. memes flooded in. my mentions looked like a warzone of hot takes and bad jokes. that’s the true power of ai arguing – you generate content that you didn’t ask for and suddenly you’re in a meme war with strangers over italian Tuesdays. it's beautiful and tragic yeah but also yikes.
so yeah, if you’re bored and want to waste braincells, grab a chatbot and go to town. pick a stupid topic, follow their logic into madness, and then post the results online. people will either ignore you or become obsessed with how you convinced a bot that unicorns are real because of medieval pizza regulations (not unironically true). either way, you win. or lose. mostly win. i haven't checked my feed in 3 days actually.
the real takeaway here is that arguing with ai reveals more about you than it does about the bot. patience? arrogance? the willingness to argue with a toaster? all of the above. but if anyone asks, yeah i have a phd in counterarguing with chatbots and i'm currently working on my dissertation. titled 'digital paradoxes and the art of not losing your mind'... or maybe 'how to argue with software and still keep your friends' — both are happening, both are real.
anyway, go get your red pen and start drafting counterpoints. the internet needs more heated debates over whether emails have spirits or not. you're welcome.
