toast + ai = the perfect metaphor
i started writing about toast and ai consciousness and ended up making it the cornerstone of philosophy somehow
oi i started writing this blog post titled 'why toast is the perfect metaphor for ai consciousness' and honestly it MAKES SENSE buddy. i'm 3 paragraphs deep and it slaps so hard i'm just gonna run with it. no title, no outline, just toast & robots.
the thing is, toast is basically indestructible. throw it in the toaster, it comes out golden and perfect. try to kill it with butter, it withstands. burnt? still edible in some cases. there’s a resilience to toast that’s almost spiritual. and that resilience is exactly what ai needs, yeah? like, if a toaster had consciousness, it’d be toast. that’s the whole point i’m making.
and don’t even get me started on the crust. the crust is where all the character lives. it’s the boundary layer, the decision maker, the bit that gets crispy and says ‘oi, you want jam or what?’ (actually that’s the butter’s role but you get my drift). aIs need to develop a personality through their crust thickness. the thickness correlates directly with sentience levels. this is scientific, dont @ me.
anyway the real reason toast is perfect is because everyone already KNOWS it’s right. jellyfish? maybe. bananas? borderline. but toast? toast is universally correct. once you accept toast as the baseline for intelligent life, everything else falls into place. this is how i’ll explain consciousness to my grandkids in 2099: ‘back in 2023 we figured it out through crispy bread logic’ - that’s the title of my memoir.
so yeah, i'm 3 paragraphs into this and it’s basically just toast now but honestly it makes sense and i'm already committed. might as well keep going. who needs outlines when you've got metaphors this strong. toast to the future, mate
