questions
where do hidden characters come from?
copying from web pages, word processors and chat apps, which use them for layout. some are added on purpose: to track where text was copied, to watermark it, or to hide a message or an instruction in it.
can hidden text trick an AI?
yes. unicode tag characters are invisible on screen but many language models read them, so instructions can ride along inside text that looks harmless. check text from unknown sources here before pasting it into an assistant.
what is a lookalike letter?
a letter from another alphabet that looks like a latin one, like cyrillic а for a, used in fake links and names. it is only flagged when it is mixed into a word with latin letters, so real russian or greek text is left alone.
can it read hidden messages?
it decodes the common tricks: text written in unicode tag characters, bytes hidden in emoji variation selectors, and binary written with two kinds of zero-width character.
